Doctor Training at Elgar House
We are delighted to be able to pass on our knowledge of medicine to the next generation and have been a training practice since 1996. This means that GPs in training, doctors who have completed their degrees and have worked in hospital for a few years, come to gain experience working in general practice under supervision and will be attached to the practice team for up to a year. In addition we also take more junior doctors, known as foundation year doctors for 4 month attachments and have students from Birmingham University from time to time.
Dr Fiona Newman, a previous Elgar House GP registrar is now also a GP trainer.
Dr Shaun Pike teaches our students.
The whole team is involved in the teaching process, so as a patient, you may find that there are learners sitting in on consultations. When this occurs, you will be asked for your consent. You may also be asked for consent for your consultation to be recorded for education purposes, and when you are seen by a student your consent will be sought.
Please feel free to decline to consent if you wish. This will make no difference to your care.
