NHS Digital Research & Planning
Updated Information Received
Please note that further to the announcement made on 8th June 2021, the implementation of GP Data for Planning and Research has been deferred to provide more time to speak with patients, doctors, health charities and others.
It has been confirmed that a specific start date for the collection of data will not be set.
Patients do not need to register a Type 1 opt-out by 1st September to ensure their GP data will not be uploaded.
Patients can still opt out but it is not a requirement at this time.
What is it used for?
Our health and care information is used to improve your individual care and to help us research new treatments, decide where to put GP clinics and plan for the number of doctors and nurses in your local hospital. There may be times when your confidential patient information is used, such as during an epidemic, where there might be a risk to you or to people's health.
Only information that identifies you, like your name and address is used.
I want to opt out:
The NHS website is where you can choose if your confidential patient data, from your health records is shared for research and planning. If you do not want it to be shared with either medical or other purposes, then please view the link to opt out of the two. https://www.nhs.uk/your-nhs-data-matters/manage-your-choice/
If you are unable to access the site, you can complete an opt out form that needs to be given to the surgery.
