The Reach4Wellbeing team aims to promote positive wellbeing, reach children and young people in their communities and reduce the stigma of mental health. 

We currently provide short-term group programmes for children and young people age 5-18 experiencing mild to moderate anxiety and low mood.

About us

We are passionate about improving the emotional and mental wellness of children and young people. Our team are friendly, knowledgeable and supportive of all children and young people we work with.

The CAMHS Reach4Wellbeing team delivers group programmes for children and young people using Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) principles.

We have implemented a number of temporary service changes in light of the COVID-19 (coronavirus) situation. Our face-to-face group programmes have been put on hold and we are now running interactive online programmes that we can deliver to young people and the parents of younger children. We continue to accept self-referrals and referrals from professionals.

Each of the online sessions are evidence based and we are currently able to offer the following:

  • A six week anxiety and low mood programme for young people age 12 and over
  • A six week anxiety programme for parents/carers to support the emotional wellbeing needs of their children who are age 5-11 years

Our programmes rely on practising skills outside the weekly group sessions. Research has shown that the more children and young people practice skills learnt in the groups, the more they saw improvements in their anxiety/depression and experienced greater positive well-being by the end of, and following the group. Like any change, this entails hard work, persistence and time, if you currently cannot put in this additional commitment, our programmes will not be effective.

To benefit from this treatment please only attend a Reach4Wellbeing group when you feel ready to participate in the programme and complete the practice tasks between sessions.

We accept referrals where:

• The child/young person has a Worcestershire GP.

• The child/young person is between 5 to 18 years old.

•The child/young person has accessed previous support for the emotional wellbeing/mental health difficulty that the referral is about.

 

We are currently unable to accept referrals:

•If the child/young person is currently engaged in face to face counselling/therapy for their anxiety with another service other than Kooth.

•Is currently under or is waiting to be seen by a Specialist CAMHS team.

•Is undergoing or awaiting assessment with the Umbrella Service or has an Autistic Spectrum Disorder diagnosis.

•Has a previous history of attempts to overdose or take own life (if this occurred over 12 months ago and you feel this young person is suitable for this service please contact us)

•Is currently receiving support from the Youth Justice Service.

•If the child/young person requires one to one talking therapy support

•If the child/young person requires intervention for their behaviour - Groups are available for parents who would like to build on their existing skills and learn new approaches to support and recognise the feelings behind their child’s behaviour:

Once a referral is received it will be discussed at our earliest possible triage meeting, following this an outcome letter is sent to the young person or a child’s parent/carer and a copy to the GP.

There are occasions where our service may not be beneficial or be best placed to meet the child or young person’s needs; the referral outcome letter will explain why this is and what alternative options are available

If the referral is accepted a further letter inviting the child/young person to the next available group will be sent.

We live in a country where the number of young people presenting at A&E with urgent mental health needs has tripled in the last ten years, where a quarter of young women have a diagnosable mental health problem and where suicide is the single biggest killer of boys and young men.

And these figures do not yet factor in the devastating impact of the coronavirus pandemic and the tsunami of mental health struggles we anticipate as a result.

The crisis in young people's mental health is well publicised. But behind each and every one of these statistics is a real life - a young person who urgently needs help. Far, far too often, these young people are simply not getting that help. And for many, it is already too late.
